Money Saving tip!!

This week I'm working lots and lots in the basement trying to get everything ready for 'lil Man" to arrive so that I don't need to be down there much when he arrives. And let me give you a little tour of our basement.
It's where I have all our tubs of the kids clothes for the next season and sizes, canning shelves, extra groceries, our washer and drier, as well as our wood stove that heats our home in these cold winter days! But to be honest it's a MESS!! with Christmas and things, everything that I didn't want to look at got stuck down there. and so I'm trying to get it all in order this week!
With making our own laundry soap, I've been trying to find a recipe for homemade " good for you"  fabric softener and just haven't found any that I really like. I use white Vinegar for our cloth diapers and have used that a few times, but I want that yummy smell that goes with it too!
And by mistake (a HUGE mess)  I found this recipe a few weeks ago and I really like it!

Take your favorite liquid fabric softener and soak an old hand towel and wet it completely with the softener. Wring it out and let it dry completely, then throw it in with your next load.  It will help to stretching out softener use. In other words, save money.
I used it on Lanna's quilt a few weeks ago and her room still smells yummy and fresh!!!

Have a great day!!!
Blessings!!!

Thanks for sharing! (By the way, this same comment is also on your facebook, but I thought it would be fitting to have it on the actual blog, too, in case anyone else out there chimes in on the post. So sorry for the redundancy :)... But,it's fun to read about real life and your "tips"! I agree with you about the good-smelling softener! I usually just try to buy mine at a sale price, and then with coupons on top of that! But, I've also been thinking of gradually switching over to completely homemade (I still haven't used homemade detergent either, because I'm still using our "stock" of detergents I have in the basement.) I'd like to eventually rid our home from as many chemicals as possible. I definitely will probably use the homemade det. after baby boy comes (especially for diapers, etc.). Anyway, regarding your desire for better smelling "natural, vinegar-based homemade softener/ rinse", have you tried adding some drops of essential oils? I've read some blogs about people who do the vinegar (or a vinegar/ baking soda mix) for softener, and then they add their favorite essential oil. I really want to try that, and I'm curious if it helps give it somewhat of a "good" smell that lingers on the clothes. I just recently bought some essential oils, so I'll let you know when I try it! Just let me know what you think or if you've tried this when you get a chance... Thanks! :)
